June’s outing is to Sargent, Texas, was canceled due to all the freshwater flowing in to the bay. This gives those who couldn’t go at that time a second chance to make it. We have rescheduled for August 16 – 18.
The setup is the same. We have three houses reserved that will sleep 15 people total. We may be able to get another cabin if we have more that want to go on the trip. The place we will be staying can be viewed on this website: https://www.cyvrsargent.com/.
Sargent waters include Caney Creek, East Matagorda Bay, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Gulf surf. We have arranged for Gene Allen of Living Waters Guide Service to provide shuttles for kayakers and wade fishers. He is confirmed for Saturday to take people to his selected spots. This will be a group guide so not one on one but he will take the group to spots he knows will hold fish. The club will pay his guide fee but participants are encouraged to tip. Gene will also be available on Friday to shuttle kayakers and waders to the flats. Cost of this will be $50 a person.
East Matagorda is much like the Galveston Bay in water clarity but it has proved to be some great fishing. If you don’t have a kayak or you really don’t want to wade fish, there are opportunities to fish from the piers that are an amenity at each house, (even lighted for night fishing) and fishing the surf on the gulf side of the barrier island. We will also have a shrimp boil on Saturday night. An information flyer will be available at the July and August meetings.
The cost of the trip is $200 a person for three nights. We are requiring a $100 deposit to hold your place. Since Caney Realty has a stiff cancellation policy, the deposit is not refundable after 40 days before the event. Deposits may be sent to Fort Worth Fly Fishers P.O. Box 1133, Fort Worth, Texas 76101 or given at the club meetings. Please let us know as soon as possible that you are coming.
