Monofilament fishing line can take from 300-600 years to break down in the environment.
• Fluorocarbon line is even worse – it can last 500-1000 years in streams and soil.
• Both materials pose long-term risk to fish, birds, and other wildlife that can get tangled or ingest them.
• BEST PRACTICE: Carry a small zip bag or line container and pack EVERY clipping out. Many tackle shops and boat ramps also have recycling bins for used line.
• We do not want future generations of fish to be swimming in a pool of fishing line. Thank you to those who find and pickup line along the river and dispose.
