Our own Dutch Baughman shares his fly tying and fly fishing experiences with the club at our Aug. 1 membership meeting at our usual venue, the UNT Health Science Center at 3500 Camp Bowie Blvd. in Fort Worth at 7 p.m. Join us for another educational and entertaining session with one of the club’s most honored members!

Dutch plans on talking specifically about steelhead, two-handed casting, rivers of the Pacific Northwest, steelhead (and salmon) flies, fishing methods for steelhead and salmon, and more.

For many years, Dutch has taught fly fishing classes at a local college, as well as personal and group instruction for fly tying, fly fishing, and two-hand and single hand casting. Dutch has been a demonstration tyer many times, including the FFI Expo, the Sow Bug Rendezvous, Fly Fest, Trout Fest, Northwest Fly Fishing and Tying Expo, and is a 27-year member of the Roadkill Roundtable Fly Tyers, established in 1972. Dutch completed an apprenticeship with Michael Radencich for Salmon Fly Tying.

Dutch just completed 10 years of service to the FFI Board of Directors. During that time, Dutch has been chair of the FFI Education Committee and led the development of the FFI Learning Center. He served on the Executive Committee and many Board sub-committees. Dutch was a Board appointee to the Casting Board of Governors and the Fly Tying Group Board of 

Governors. Dutch received the 2019 FFI Fly Fisher of the Year Award and a President’s Medal, the 2020 Darwin Atkins Fly Tying Award,the 2022 Dick Nelson Fly Tying Teaching Award, and the 2023 Buz Buszek Memorial Fly Tying Award.

Dutch has also spent a decade on the FFI Texas Council Board. He is a long-time member of the Fort Worth Fly Fishers Club and the Dallas Fly Fishers Club. Dutch serves as an Area Chief for the Texas Parks and Wildlife and is a certified Angler Education Instructor.
