Our Summer Learning Series concludes Sept. 6 with a casting session that offers tips to beginners and experienced fly fishers alike.

NOTE: We meet at Monticello Park in Fort Worth. The address is 3400 Dorothy Lane South, which is a three-minute drive north of our regular meeting venue at the UNT Health Science Center.

The action starts at 7 p.m., but try arrive a bit early so you’re ready to go when Stephen Woodcock, fly fishing manager at Orvis Fort Worth,  begins the session. Stephen expects to start with a few minutes going over casting fundamentals and then split the group into three groups:

  • Beginners – pick up/lay down, horizontal backcast forward cast hit target.
  • Intermediate – false casting tight loops, correcting tailing loops and roll cast.
  • Advanced – Shooting line with regular cast and then double haul.

All attending should bring a fly rod and reel with matching floating line and short leader preferably with a bright piece of yarn tied on the end. Stephen will have yarn for everyone if needed.

Hopefully the cooler weather will hold, but just in case be sure to bring water and dress appropriately.

See you there!
