Names: Kurt and Lynne Calender
FWFF members since: June 2011
Fishing since:
Kurt – since boyhood
Lynne – May 2013, Jim Bass’ casting school in Keller
Favorite place to fly fish:
Kurt – Colorado
Lynne – the neighborhood pond a few miles from our house in Keller
The last place I fly fished:
Kurt – Nolan River
Lynne – Guadalupe River with Kurt and Jud Cole of Hell ‘N’ Back Outfitters
My dream fly fishing trip is (and with whom):
Kurt – Belize, fishing for permit, bonefish and tarpon with Lefty Kreh
Lynne – a brook in green Scotland with Kurt
Favorite fish to catch:
Kurt – the fish at the end of my line now
Lynne – rainbow trout
Best fly fishing memory:
Kurt – catching 80 trout in one day, five browns and 75 rainbows, with my wife keeping track
Lynne – the first brown of the trip, a 2-pounder, on the White River in Arkansas at Gaston’s: the first time I caught a fish before Kurt did!
When I’m not fly fishing, I like to:
Kurt – visit our kids in Denver; hike, bicycle, camp, bird watch, look at the stars; I like to read about fly fishing, think about how awesome my last trip was, and plan my next trip.
Lynne – I like to read, hike, birdwatch, stargaze
The reason I like fly fishing is:
Kurt – The challenge of fooling a fish to take an artificial fly is just plain fun, and bringing a fish to the net on a lively fly rod is a thrill every time. Also, beautiful water surrounded by breathtaking scenery is amazingly peaceful.
Lynne – I get outdoors with my favorite friend whereas I would just be a couch potato otherwise
Anything else you would like the club to know about you?
Lynne – I appreciate the warm welcome from the club, fly fishing has opened the door to some great outdoor adventures!
