When: September 5th to 12th 2015. We fly into Anchorage on the first Saturday (9/5/15) stay in Anchorage that night. Sunday we take a charter flight to Pedro Bay on Lake Iliamna, shuttle to the cabins on the Iliamna River via Rainbow River’s 28 ft jet boat. We will be fishing that afternoon on the Iliamna River. We depart Pedro Bay for Anchorage the second Saturday afternoon (9/12/15) and are able to fly out that evening or stay another night in Anchorage and fly out on Sunday. Flight details can be worked out as a group or individually.
Where: SW Alaska, Lake Iliamna area. One week of guided fishing on the Iliamna River and surrounding area. The week will include three days of fishing on the Iliamna River and three days on Cook Inlet tributaries and/or Lake Iliamna tributaries with one or two fly out days. We will be fishing for lake-run rainbow trout and Arctic Char, there is a chance we will be able to fish for silver and chum salmon and sea run dolly varden in the Cook Inlet tributaries. Jet boats will be used to access ten to twelve miles of the Iliamna River. We will use the large jet boat to gain access to some of the smaller Lake Iliamna tributaries. Gear for the Iliamna should include six or seven weight outfits with floating and sink tip lines. We should be able to “swing” flesh flies for the rainbows. The rainbows are in the river following the Sockeye Salmon eating the salmon eggs and rotting flesh of the spawned out salmon. A pegged bead fished below an indicator is also an effective technique. Gear for the other rivers should include an eight weight outfit with floating and sink tip lines with nine to ten foot leaders in 0X to 3X. A single-hand nine or ten foot rod will work well. RRL will be adding a vehicle to allow access to the Cook Inlet. It is a 30 minute drive on a state maintained access road to the boat launch.
Accommodations: In 2013 RRL added three modern log cabins on the Iliamna River. The cabins are heated, have two queen beds, a private bath with hot and cold running water and a shower. RRL will be building a new lodge facility with a modern kitchen early in 2015. There is a chef assigned to this facility along with two or three guides.
How Many: I have room for six other anglers maybe seven.
How Much: Cost per person, $5000.00, this includes one night motel stay in Anchorage, charter flight to Pedro Bay, boat and air travel during the week, fishing license, bear spray rental, food for the week and guides. What it doesn’t include is air fare to Anchorage, food in Anchorage, tips to the guides and additional night stay in Anchorage at the end of the trip. You bring: fishing gear and personal gear. This is a non-profit trip for me. I just like to fish Alaska and enjoy helping others have a similar experience.
