Please join Fort Worth Fly Fishers on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 8 a.m. at the Texas 16 bridge over the Brazos River below Possum Kingdom Dam near Graford, for our annual Fly Fishing 101 education event. Due to weather-related difficulties in North Texas, this popular event was rescheduled from Feb. 20. We hope for better conditions

Both FWFF members and non-members are encouraged to attend. If you need equipment, we will provide rods, reels, lines, and flies, along with help from experienced fly fishers, for free. Feel free to bring along a guest interested in learning about fly fishing using nymph or streamer techniques in hopes of landing one of many species below the dam, including stocked rainbow trout.

If you have your own equipment, we recommend:
• Waders, wading boots, and a warm jacket
• A nine-foot, 5-weight rod with a floating line
• A leader of 4x to 6x and tippet and strike indicators
• Flies – an assortment of nymphs and streamers

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is stocking thousands of rainbows between November and February below Possum Kingdom dam. The first stocking took place on Nov. 27. You can also find more information regarding additional winter stocking locations on the Texas Parks and Wildlife website.

NOTE: Face masks are required when meeting in a group. We will practice social distancing on the water and throughout the event. Also, all participants must complete the FWFF COVID release form which can be found at the following link: https://fortworthflyfishers.org/2021/02/07/important-covid-19-waiver-form/ You can complete the form and turn it in at the event. If you do not know if you have previously completed the form, please complete it and bring it to the event.

After a morning of fishing, participants may choose to gather for lunch, but the club will NOT provide food and drinks as in past years due to health concerns. The FF101 event will be hosted by Education Director Brad Dodson at dodson97@sbcglobal.net, and Outings Director Christopher Patnode, at (817)-819-5519. Please contact them with any questions. Please RSVP for FF101 by emailing Brad, or visit our Facebook page and mark as “Going” on our Event” Please do it as soon as possible to allow us to plan accordingly.

Volunteers Needed to help at FF 101 on Feb. 27

If you’re an experienced fly fisher, please volunteer to help a couple of new fly fishers at this event. Please email Education Director Brad Dodson at dodson97@sbcglobal.net. This typically entails helping one or two people on the Brazos River with rigging, casting, and fly fishing techniques. We’ll provide them with flies and a rod/reel should they need them. And remember, you’ll earn Volunteer Incentive Program points that qualify you for a shot at hundreds of dollars’ worth of fly
