September Outing: Bill Ward’s Ranch and Private Lakes, West of Mexia

Come September, we’re heading to one of our favorite places: Bill Ward’s beautiful gravel quarry lakes west of Mexia. This outing is set for September 16-18.  This has always been a very popular club trip. It is an easy drive from Fort Worth or Dallas. These gravel quarry lakes are filled with fish (big bass and perch). The water is amazingly clear and clean. There will be fish fry- and cash prizes – for the 5 biggest perch and biggest bass!

How to get there: 6 to 7 miles west of Mexia on Hwy.84 to the intersection of 2681 and LCR 199/198. Take LCR 199/198 north. First opportunity take a left and then take a right on to LCR 198 (sharp 90 degree curve). Go about .8 miles to the top of the hill. Look for 2 red gates and turn right. MUST CONTACT BILL HODGES IN ADVANCE FOR GATE CODE. Follow this road about 3/4 mile past 2 buildings and down to the water.

Accommodations: This is a camping trip. There will be a place for RV’s, but limited hook-ups. Otherwise it will be tent camping. There will be a porta-potty. (There is a Best Western and a Comfort inn in Mexia.)

Your host for this trip will be Bill Hodges. You can e-mail Bill at bcolhodges@aol.com  and there will be a group sign-up sheet at the meeting.
